FAIRFAX, VA. – January 10, 2018 – MKACyber, a rapidly expanding Managed Security Operations Services Provider (MSSP) and security consulting firm with elite SOC expertise, today announced that its founder and CEO, Mischel Kwon, has been named to the inaugural class of Hall of Fame recipients for the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) CyberCorps: Scholarships for Service (SFS) program. Ms. Kwon is one of three recipients chosen from a pool of more than 60 applicants for this year’s inaugural Hall of Fame awards.

The CyberCorps: Scholarships for Service program was important for my education, which prepared me as a cybersecurity expert at the top levels of both the public and private sectors,” said Ms. Kwon. “The work that NSF is doing through the SFS program to help get qualified people from the cybersecurity discipline into the government is of critical importance. Personally, I’m incredibly proud to have helped put over 60 cybersecurity professionals into the Federal government through my work as an educator and I look forward to continuing to work with The CyberCorps: Scholarships for Service program in the years to come.”
The NSF SFS program was established in 2000 to provide scholarships to students studying cybersecurity and to increase the ability of the United States higher education enterprise to produce cybersecurity professionals. To date, the program has enrolled more than 3,300 students who receive a scholarship and commit to work for a Federal, State, Local, or Tribal Government organization in a position related to cybersecurity.
“It was a very difficult decision since we have received nominations for many outstanding SFS alumni,” said Victor Piotrowski, CyberCorps SFS lead program director in NSF’s Education and Human Resources Directorate. “However, this also shows how the SFS program contributes to improving the posture of cybersecurity in the government.”
Ms. Kwon is an SFS alumni who graduated from a joint SFS program at Marymount University and George Washington University with a MS in Computer Science and an emphasis in Information Assurance.
